Jacob Lekkerkerker studied organ with Jos van der Kooy and Ewald Kooiman, and improvisation with Ansgar Wallenhorst and Loïc Mallié. He also studied art history and philosophy. Lekkerkerker was awarded various prizes, including the Sweelinck-Muller prize for innovative organ projects, the Prix Spécial Englert-Marchal, and the Jur Naessens prize for adventurous music of all genres.He is titular organist of the Oude Kerk in Amsterdam.He is member of the Orgelpark Research Team, where he researches improvisation and organ typology under the motto To be a dancer on the Organ.
