In memoriam Piet Kee (1927-2018)
Piet Kee was one of the most influential organists of the 20th century. As teacher at the Sweelinck Conservatory Amsterdam, composer of numerous pieces for and with the organ and in his function as Haarlem Municipal organist he was of immense importance for the Dutch organ culture. For decades he was one of the Bach teachers at the Haarlem Summer Academy, part of the Haarlem International Organ Festival. Three times he won the Improvisation Competition. His name will be closely connected to the Organ Festival forever.
Piet Kee died on Friday morning, May 25th, in the age of 90. We will proudly honor his name and will remember him as one of our iconic musicians. In our thoughts we are with Els, the family and friends of Piet.
